Lego Building & Programming Club

Lego Building & Programming Club for 3rd & 4th Graders Main Page Image

This club is open to 3rd and 4th grade students. Applications to join the club are sent home each fall. This club is a pre-requiste for the 5th grade Robotics Club. For more information contact the sponsor, Beth Garrard.

This club meets each Thursday after school from 2:45-4:00 in Ms. Garrard's classroom.

4th Grade Lego Club meets in the months of September, November, January, March, and May.

5th Grade Lego Club meets in the months of October, December, February, and April.

Applications for this club go home with 3rd and 4th graders in the fall. This club is for students who love to build with Legos and want to learn to program robots using the Lego Mindstorm NXT Robotics kits. Participation in the club will become a pre-requisite to join the 5th grade Robotics Team.

In this club, students will work in teams to use Legos to complete building challenges like creating the largest skyscraper in a 2 inch square or building the longest, most stable bridge. Students will also learn how to program using software like Scratch and the Lego NXT Mindstorms software. We will also learn how to build a programmable robot using the NXT Kits and practice programming our robots to maneuver through obstacles.

Students in this club will not compete in the district level Robotics competitions but will be invited to come and watch the 5th grade team and will help plan and prepare for the competition that will be held at Green Valley in the spring.

Contact Ms. Beth Garrard, Green Valley Enrichment Teacher, for more details.
